Presentation Title:Glaciogenic Cloud Seeding in the Northwestern United States, The Idaho Approach
Full Name:Kala Golden
Affiliation / Institution:Idaho Department of Water Resources
Abstract:This presentation will provide an overview of Idaho’s Glaciogenic Cloud Seeding Program, with a focus on program management, operational practices, and research-based impact evaluations. Developed through collaboration between the Idaho Water Resource Board, Idaho Power Company, and local basin stakeholders, Idaho’s program supports sustainable water supplies essential to the state’s rapidly growing population and diverse economic needs. Idaho is not only one of the fastest-growing states in the United States, but also a leading producer of commodities both nationally and in exports worldwide, underscoring the importance of reliable water access to sustain its resources. Faced with increasing water demand amidst warmer, drier climate conditions, the State of Idaho has made significant investments in cloud seeding technology and research to protect water supplies for the future. This presentation will explore Idaho’s integrated approach to cloud seeding as a strategic component of long-term water resource management. Key challenges include the complexity of developing projects, the availability of resources, and advancing necessary research to address essential policy questions. Attendees will gain insights into Idaho’s unique approach to managing water resources through collaborative and science-driven cloud seeding efforts.
